TRANSHUMANISM: THE PATH TO SINGULARITY
The intention of this website is to provide an overall awareness to the facts, assumptions and predictions, and to the theoretical and philosophical constucts of how the relationship between Transhumanism, Singularity and Artificial Intelligence will contribute to either Humanity's ultimate demise or to its destined collaborative evolution in Consciousness.
WHAT IS TRANSHUMANISM?
Transhumanism is an international and intellectual movement that aims to transform the human condition by developing and making widely available sophisticated technologies to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities. Transhumanist thinkers study the potential benefits and dangers of emerging technologies that could overcome fundamental human limitations, as well as the ethics of using such technologies. The most common transhumanist thesis is that human beings may eventually be able to transform themselves into different beings with abilities so greatly expanded from the natural condition as to merit the label of posthuman beings.

WHAT IS SINGULARITY?
Singularity is an era in which our intelligence will become increasingly nonbiological and trillions of times more powerful than it is today—the dawning of a new civilization that will enable us to transcend our biological limitations and amplify our creativity.

In the case of our biological brains, our goals are established by the pleasure and fear centers that we have inherited from the old brain. These primitive drives were initially set by biological evolution to foster the survival of species, but the neocortex has enabled us to sublimate them. Watson’s goal was to respond to Jeopardy! queries. Another simply stated goal could be to pass the Turing test. To do so, a digital brain would need a human narrative of its own fictional story so that it can pretend to be a biological human. It would also have to dumb itself down considerably, for any system that displayed the knowledge of, say, Watson would be quickly unmasked as nonbiological.”

WHAT IS AI: Artificial Intelligence?
"Artificial intelligence (AI) will transform the world later this century. I expect this transition will be a "soft takeoff" in which many sectors of society update together in response to incremental AI developments, though the possibility of a harder takeoff in which a single AI project "goes foom" shouldn't be ruled out. If a rogue AI gained control of Earth, it would proceed to accomplish its goals by colonizing the galaxy and undertaking some very interesting achievements in science and engineering. On the other hand, it would not necessarily respect human values, including the value of preventing the suffering of less powerful creatures. Whether a rogue-AI scenario would entail more expected suffering than other scenarios is a question to explore further. Regardless, the field of AI ethics and policy seems to be a very important space where altruists can make a positive-sum impact along many dimensions. Expanding dialogue and challenging us-vs.-them prejudices could be valuable."

The general benefit of artificial intelligence, or AI, is that it replicates decisions and actions of humans without human shortcomings, such as fatigue, emotion and limited time. Machines driven by AI technology are able to perform consistent, repetitious actions without getting tired. It is also easier for companies to get consistent performance across multiple AI machines than it is across multiple human workers.
Companies incorporate AI into production and service-based processes. In a manufacturing business, AI machines can churn out a high, consistent level of production without needing a break or taking time off like people. This efficiency improves the cost-basis and earning potential for many companies. Mobile devices use intuitive, voice-activated AI applications to offer users assistance in completing tasks. For example, users of certain mobile phones can ask for directions or information and receive a vocal response.
The premise of AI is that it models human intelligence. Though imperfections exist, there is often a benefit to AI machines making decisions that humans struggle with. AI machines are often programmed to follow statistical models in making decisions. Humans may struggle with personal implications and emotions when making similar decisions. Famous scientist Stephen Hawking uses AI to communicate with a machine, despite suffering from a motor neuron disease.

Over the past 65 years, Artificial Intelligence has been heavily documented in films (check out our interactive experience), and we wondered just how real those depictions were, and whether they will affect us in the real word. For answers to our questions, we asked IEEE Member George K. Thiruvathukal, also a member of the IEEE Computer Society and Professor of Computer Science at Loyola University, Chicago, about the future of AI and how it has been portrayed in film.
Artificial intelligence has been a Hollywood staple for years. Often, films dealing with the technology involve robots rising up to destroy humanity. It's all in good fun. Except for the possibility that, well, maybe it could happen? After all, the goal of AI, really, is to foster machines that think like humans, and heaven knows we're capable of some very nasty thoughts.
AI experts, though, say most of these films don't offer a realistic portrayal of how we'll actually get along with the technology. The dangers just might not be exactly what we're expecting, or as dramatically dire, and those wise-cracking robot sidekicks might not be as sexy.
Filmmakers have seized on the uncertainty and let their imaginations run wild. Here's a look at some great, and not so great, movies that have tried to envision the power of AI.

The present state of AI is to augment human intelligence and especially help us with recall and basic inferencing from large data sets. When we talk about AI, we also need to be talking about the state of related areas, such as machine learning, neuroscience, and robotics. It is this combination of understanding the human brain and being able to mimic other human aspects that will allow AI to be more helpful to us. For example, we presently can use robots to do many tasks that would be otherwise hazardous to humans (e.g. submersibles, drones, etc.)
Of course, any technology can be harmful to us. Terminator is interesting because it deals with AI and its dangers. While some ideas are rather far-fetched (AI returning from the future), it is clear that the future could be fraught with great societal challenges, especially if robots end up in the wrong hands. Even in the right hands, we must ensure that ethics are considered. For example, in warfare, we’ve seen drones of increasing sophistication used to get the “bad guys.” But what will happen when other folks who think they’re the “good guys” get the same technology? It smells like a future (or present) arms race.

What is Cryptocurrency?
a digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank. Decentralized cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin now provide an outlet for personal wealth that is beyond restriction and confiscation.
What are Bitcoins?
Perhaps the most well known crypto-currency on the market, Bitcoin is like digital gold. There is a finite supply that can be ‘mined’ every year using sophisticated software. This is called blockchain technology, we'll go into more detail about blockchain in a future post.
Now if you are interested in investing in Bitcoins or digital currencies, this probably isn't the post for you. What we plan on explaining to you is the societal implications of such technology being implemented at scale.
BITCOIN: THE RISE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
What is a Blockchain?
A blockchain is a ledger of records arranged in data batches called blocks that use cryptocurrency or cryptographic validation to link themselves together. Put simply, each block references and identifies the previous block by a hashing function, forming an unbroken chain, hence the name.
Put like this, a blockchain just sounds like a kind of database with built-in validation—which it is. However, the clever bit is that the ledger is not stored in a master location or managed by any particular body. Instead, it is said to be distributed, existing on multiple computers at the same time in such a way that anybody with an interest can maintain a copy of it.
Better still, the block validation system ensures that nobody can tamper with the records. Rather, old transactions are preserved forever and new transactions are added to the ledger irreversibly. Anyone on the network can check the ledger and see the same transaction history as everyone else.
Effectively a blockchain is a kind of independent, transparent, and permanent database coexisting in multiple locations and shared by a community. This is why it’s sometimes referred to as a mutual distributed ledger (MDL).
Why All the Hype?
Because digital currencies are a decentralized system. Governments would lose control over the economy. This would mean:
A more authentic version of a "Free Market". The currencies exchange at the rate of the market with no intervention.
It is secure and private. You can remain anonymous while using Bitcoin.
Value not pegged to any country, which means more if you live in places like Venezuela where the local currency is even more volatile.

What is Quantum Computing
Modern day computers run on a model designed by Alan Turing in the 1930s. They are digital and use bits to transfer information and perform tasks. They use binary code and can only ever been in an active, or an inactive state - running at one or zero. This means that a single bit is either on or off at any one time. Qubits work differently and can be on, off, or in a mixed state in between. As a result, qubits are able to be in multiple places at the same time. Whereas the original Turing computer can only make one calculation at a time, quantum computers are capable of performing single tasks faster, and performing multiple tasks more effectively. Tasks that would take normal computers years to complete can be processed in seconds using quantum computers like the D-Wave.
What is Quantum Entanglement?
Quantum entanglement is a physical phenomenon that occurs when pairs or groups of particles are generated or interact in ways such that the quantum state of each particle cannot be described independently – instead, a quantum state may be given for the system as a whole. Superpositions are produced, such as the possibility of being in two places at once, which defies intuition. In addition, when two particles are entangled a connection is generated: measuring the state of one (whether they are in one place or another, or spinning one way or another, for example) affects the state of the other particle instantly, no matter how far away from each other they are.
